Stratatomic Launches New Website for Cotton Owens Garage
CottonOwens.com
GREENVILLE - Stratatomic has recently launched a new website for Cotton Owens Garage of Spartanburg, SC, now available online at CottonOwens.com. The website launch date commemorates the 35th Anniversary of Buddy Baker's record-setting run of better than 200 mph at the wheel of his Dodge Charger Daytona on March 24, 1970 at Talladega International Speedway.
Stratatomic will also host the new website, which will serve as a resource for vintage NASCAR racing memorabilia and nostalgia items, rare and exlusive photographs from the Cotton Owens archive, career statistics, and information regarding Cotton Owens' racing operations, cars and drivers from NASCAR's early era. The website will offer several items for sale to collectors, such as die-cast scale model cars, RetroCards™ vintage collectible postcards, authentic 1964 C.O.G. brochures, and more. The website also contains vintage racing video footage from Daytona and other hard-to-find information and career histories for Cotton Owens, David Pearson, Buddy Baker, Pete Hamilton, Charlie Glotzbach, and Marty Robbins. Also, an exclusive feature of the website will be Owens’ current ongoing restoration of a 1964 Dodge Polara to NASCAR racing specifications of that era, complete with a vintage 426 Hemi NASCAR-spec racing engine exceeding 650+ horsepower.
Cotton Owens won more than 100 NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour races during the 1950s before making the transition to the NASCAR Grand National (Nextel Cup) Series competition. His most successful season as a driver was in 1959 when he won two races, notched 22 top-10 finishes (through 37 starts) and ranked second in the series season-long points chase to Lee Petty. In 1966, Owens won the NASCAR Grand National Championship with David Pearson behind the wheel of his #6 Dodge. On March 24, 1970, an Owens-powered Dodge also claimed the first closed-course record of better than 200 miles per hour with Buddy Baker at the wheel. In 1970, Cotton Owens was inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association's Hall of Fame at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
Drivers for Cotton Owens include: David Pearson, Buddy Baker, Pete Hamilton, Marty Robbins, Ralph Earnhardt, Ray Hendrick, Bobby Isaac, Junior Johnson, Marvin Panch, Benny Parsons, Fireball Roberts and Bob Welborn. Other notables to drive for Owens include Mario Andretti, Darel Dieringer, Charlie Glotzbach, and Al Unser. In all, a total of 25 drivers climbed behind the wheel of Owens' cars in 291 races, earning 32 victories and 29 pole positions.
